What’s TMCS All About?
TMCS prioritizes learning through discovery and exploration with an emphasis on outdoor learning, character, growth, teamwork, and reflection.
The TMCS mission is to create an educational environment where students are inspired to academic excellence and discovery. Teachers, parents, students, and the community work together to honor individuality and diversity, nurture respect for self and others, and foster a life-long love of learning.
Our Roots Keep Us Grounded

Quality Cognitive Learning
At TMCS we emphasize student growth over proficiency. Proficiency is important because we want all our students to be functioning at grade level or above, but by focusing on growth we are able to help children fulfill their academic potential.
Teachers connect with children where they are currently performing and help them achieve the next level. We track our students’ progress to make sure they are making adequate growth.

Social/Emotional Awareness
Students learn the skills necessary for emotion management, responsible decision-making, empathy development, and the maintenance of positive relationships. Classrooms, curriculum, and parent/teacher/child relationships are intentionally designed to nurture students.
For children entering elementary school, TMCS is an exciting but comfortable platform to the world outside home. For children entering middle school, TMCS is a smaller, calmer alternative to larger middle schools.

Leadership Development
Developing leadership skills in kids is important because it enhances self-identity as well as promotes communication and teamwork. Leadership programs include existing Middle School Student Government and Reading Buddies as well a Peer Mediation Program that is currently in development.

Learn by Doing
Why sit around and read about it when we can do it instead? Hands-on learning provides numerous benefits for children by actively engaging them in the learning process. It enhances cognitive development, fine motor skills, problem-solving abilities, emotional growth, and memory retention. Furthermore, it fosters a love for learning and helps children connect classroom lessons to real-world situations.

Get out and Explore!
Field trips offer numerous benefits for children’s learning and development, extending beyond the traditional classroom setting. They foster academic growth, deepen engagement, provide real-world experiences, and enhance critical thinking skills. Additionally, field trips contribute to social-emotional development by encouraging collaboration, problem-solving, and empathy.

Learn from Experts
Learning from experts offers significant benefits for children by providing practical skills, unique perspectives, and opportunities for growth. Experts can offer real-world insights and help develop confidence and networking opportunities. This approach also fosters critical thinking and problem-solving skills, especially when combined with hands-on learning experiences.

Seek to Understand
Understanding and respectfully interacting with peers offers numerous benefits for children’s social, emotional, and cognitive development.
Positive peer relationships foster social skills, emotional intelligence, and self-esteem, while also providing valuable learning opportunities through observation and collaboration.

Respectfully Communicate
Respectful communication with children fosters positive relationships, boosts self-esteem, and enhances social and academic skills.
By communicating respectfully, adults model appropriate behavior, which children then emulate in their interactions with others. This includes active listening, clear expression of thoughts and feelings, and conflict resolution.

Notice Others & Yourself
Noticing others and oneself is crucial for a child’s development, fostering emotional intelligence, social skills, and overall well-being.
By recognizing emotions in themselves and others, children learn to manage their own reactions, build empathy, and navigate social situations more effectively.

It takes a village.
Whether they’re in the classroom, engaging with staff at a local business, or listening to a volunteer share their expertise, students are soaking it up.
We value each of these learning opportunities for what they are: a chance for students to learn and grow by engaging with members of our community.

We Love Volunteers
The energy and excitement from our volunteers is a critical ingredient of our school.
From campus workdays to math-tutoring to fundraising committees, we LOVE our volunteers. Do you want to share your time & talent with TMCS? Please, get in touch!

Families are Welcome
TMCS welcomes parent volunteers to be involved in their child’s learning experience. In-class assistance, field trip chaperones, class-reps…
Your engagement and participation is encouraged! Reach out to your child’s teacher to see what opportunities exist.
Our Roots Keep Us Grounded
All we do is nourished by the TMCS fundamentals, the roots of our school community.
