Admissions
TMCS is a school of choice. We welcome applications from all students who are interested in our unique educational model. We know that we are not the right fit for everyone. Before applying, we encourage you to get as much information as you can about the school.
Applying
Applications are completed online. The application period opens in mid-December and runs through the month of March each year. The application is simple and asks for only for basic information that will allow us to contact you when you are accepted.
Lottery
A lottery for each grade level will be held in April. This lottery is done electronically and results are communicated as quickly as possible.
Enrollment Priority
Some groups of students receive enrollment priority and will either be placed in the school automatically or have a separate lottery prior to the general lottery to determine who gets in. These groups of students, by state law, are children and grandchildren of current teachers and board members, siblings of currently enrolled students, siblings of students who attended TMCS in the past for four years including the 8th grade, and students with a parent or guardian on active military duty. Please note that we have no way of knowing that a younger sibling exists or is interested in TMCS if an application is not filled out.
Bundling Applications
Bundling is a concept that allows a family to group siblings into one application so that if that application is accepted through the lottery, all applicants are accepted. If the bundling option is selected, one of the applications will be labeled as the PRIMARY applicant. All other applicants will be dependent on the outcome of the lottery for that application. If the PRIMARY sibling is selected at any point in the process, all other siblings will either be accepted or moved to a priority position for their respective grade level. This process will occur whether applications were bundled or not.
Registration
Those students who are accepted will be sent an enrollment packet. That packet of information will need to be returned to the school by the deadline included. This information is needed in order to register your child. It includes academic information, records request forms, health forms, home language forms, and more. To prepare yourself for this process, we encourage you to gather a copy of your child’s birth certificate, the immunization record, and the NC Health Transmittal Form (unless previously enrolled in a NC Public School). Contact the school for more details.
Waiting List
The lottery will extend beyond the allotted number of slots to form a waiting list. As space becomes available from student withdrawals, we will move down the waiting list. This process occurs automatically through our Enrollment Management software. The next person on the waiting list will receive an email and text message indicating that they have been offered a spot. This will also include a timeline of one to five days for attendance to be confirmed. Failure to confirm attendance within the designated amount of time will result in the automatic removal of the application and an automatic offer sent to the next person on the waiting list. Please be ready to respond so that we can get your child properly registered. The waiting list will continue to be worked through the first semester. After that date, TMCS may archive all application information as we prepare for the next year. A new application is required each year for those who are not currently enrolled.
TMCS utilizes a third-party system to automate and track the enrollment process. Please read through the directions below before starting an application.
- Step 1. Create a parent account in Lotterease
- Step 2. Add your child’s application for the appropriate grade level for NEXT SCHOOL YEAR.
- Step 3. Confirm if that child has any enrollment priority based on the criteria below:
- Child/Granchild of a full-time staff member or board member
- Sibling of a currently enrolled student
- Sibling of a student who previously completed four years at TMCS including the 8th grade
- Parent or legal guardian is on active military duty
- Step 4. Add any additional children
Note: If you select to bundle these applications together, the LAST application entered will be designated the PRIMARY application.
Please note that the application process will be cut off following the lottery application deadline at the end of February and will reopen following the lottery. We use this time to verify information and prepare for the lottery.
